Red Green - Duct Tape Forever
Product ID: 11684768
The cult PBS comedy The Red Green Show stretches into a feature film with Duct Tape Forever , still very much about a batch of underachieving Canadian men and their high church of low expectations, the Possum Lodge. The longtime TV series, starring Steve Smith as flannel-shirted handyman Red Green, makes a comic virtue of Canuck self-parody and universal male ineptness. "Whenever a man does a dumb thing," says Red, "it's better if he doesn't have an audience." Well, a lot of eyes are on Red, his geeky nephew Harold (Patrick McKenna), and the other boys after a rich man (Richard Fitzpatrick) drives his car into a Possum Lodge sinkhole and sues for damages. The solution: Build a giant, duct tape goose and enter it in a Minnesota contest for cash prizes. Of course. Co-creator Smith re-tools the show's self-deprecating essence and run-on joke about male incompetence into a winning movie. --Tom Keogh RED AND THE BOYS EMBARK ON A ROAD TRIP ACROSS THE COUNTRY, EN ROUTE TO A DUCT TAPE FESTIVAL IN THE USA, WHERE THEY INTEND TO WIN FIRST PRIZE BY CREATING A SCULPTURE MADE OF AT LEAST 50% DUCT TAPE. When an evil land baron's limo falls into a sinkhole outside Possum Lodge, located 145 beer stores north of Toronto, a judge orders the men to pay $10,000 in damages in 10 days or lose their beloved lodge forever. Lodge leader Red Green (Steve Smith) considers various money-making schemes the men dream up, like selling road kill on the Internet. But it's Harold, Red's nerdy nephew, who comes up with an idea that just might save their wood-smoked bacon: a duct tape sculpture contest in Minneapolis with a $10,000 third-place prize. Before you can say "go for the bronze," Red and Harold are hitching the Possum van to a trailer carrying their can't-fail low-ball entry and heading it south. Straight into trouble. Will they make it to the contest in time? Will Harold get the credit he craves and the girl he deserves (or vice versa)? Is their goose cooked or will it fly? DVD SPECIAL FEATURES INCLUDE 5.1 Surround Sound and 2.0 stereo Red Green Goes Hollywood, a hilarious behind-the-scenes "mockumentary" featuring cast members and fans from all over the U.S. feature commentary by Steve Smith (Red Green) behind-the-sc+F12enes interviews with cast and crew photo gallery theatrical trailers. Surprisingly good
I was not expecting much after reading some of the reviews but as a Red Green fan, we thought we'd give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised and it was much better than we anticipated. Steve Smith took the characters (all of them, with the exception of Rick Green!) from the Red Green show and created a long comedy bit that actually flowed, made sense and was humorous. He pulled it off well without digressing from the original Red Green show format. Kudos to the writing. And it was good to see all the normal TV show characters involved. Others give the general plot format so I will not repeat it here. There are however maybe a half dozen places which are somewhat crude and could have been left out but that too can be said of the Red Green TV series as well. It is only for that reason that I give it a "4" instead of a "5". If you are a Red Green fan then this is highly recommended.

If you like the show you will like the movie
This is a look at Red and the gang at Possum Lodge out side of the show. If you like the show you will like the movie. The Special Features make it even better. You get to see behind the scenes and the actors as well. After viewing the Special Features I noticed different things in the back ground and wanted to see the movie again to see if I could find them. The movie played good and the case it was in held the DVD in place like it should.

Duct Tape Forever
It's great to see the guys outside the lodge and all the details of involved escapades they get into, which during the TV series can only be described by Red. There are some extra features on the disc like interviews, behind-the-scenes, etc. I related very much to Harold in this story, and I think the movie really enhanced his character. If you're a fan of the Red Green Show on TV and care about the characters, this is a great extra.

It's not just for men!
Steve Smith and the rest of the cast will leave you laughing. From the lodge to Ranger Gord's ranger station to Port Asbestos, the journey is never dull. Although Possum Lodge has no female members (that I'm aware of), ladies will enjoy the Red Green Show as much as their do it yourself husbands.

"..It's the male that gets it"
The PBS comedy Red Green makes a good movie! A rich man visits Possum Lodge and finds a sinkhole with his fancy limo. The rich man, Robert Stiles, sues Possum Lodge for $10,000. The only way to save the lodge, is that the giant goose made out of duct tape wins 3rd place in a duct tape contest. Red Green (Steve Smith) takes along his nerdy nephew Harold and Dalton. All through the movie, Red Green does the voiceover. Any Red Green fan would love this movie!

Oh my god . . .
Okay, I work nights for a good part of the year (tax accountant), and my local PBS station runs two episodes of Red Green every night at 10PM, and I think I've seen nearly every one of the 300 episodes, I practically lived with Steve Smith's creation. So, like you, being a fan of the show, I thought this was probably marginal and somewhat predictable, but I figured I'd show my appreciation and put a nickel in his pocket. So, having done so, I'd like to talk to all the middle aged guys out there who are fans of the show. Do not watch this DVD. Not ever. You want to give Steve a few bucks? Fine. Buy a coffee mug off his website or something. My copy went straight from the DVD player to the trash bin, I don't even want to own it, much less ever disgrace my memory of Possum Lodge with this . . . goose by watching it again. It's that bad, it really is. Take your stick off the ice and bash this DVD with it.

Silly followup to the television series
The gang from Possum Lodge make the leap to the big screen. Nothing in this film that will blow you away but the characters from the TV series are all game. Steve Smith is his usual silly self as Red Green but Pat McKenna steals the show as Harold. You will enjoy this if you are a fan of the series. For those who are not, it makes the perfect introduction to the world of Red Green.
