Perfect Freeview Box
I bought this Oakcastle SB110 Set Top Box for the TV I have in a bedroom mainly for the ability to pause live TV. I set it up very easily, it took me about 20 minutes all in, thats connecting to TV, powering up and tuning in all the channels. I had no problems with the tuning and it receives all my regular channels. I had a spare 32GB USB Stick which it recognised straight off. I don't imagine I will be doing any Timed Recordings but I did test that facility without a problem, the Live Pause / TimeShift works perfectly well. The only downside for me personally is the buttons on the remote are very small and my eyesight isn't all that good however after a few weeks of use I should get to know the layout of the remote buttons by touch. Overall I am extremely pleased with the Oakcastle SB110 Set Top Box and for the price it is extremely good value for money.

Small size. Low cost. Great value.
Excellent value for money - a Freeview HD compatible set top box with the capability to record programs on to a USB. Pros - easy set up, SCART and HDMI connectivity, small and lightweight. Cons - counterintuitive remote control, very basic EPG on screen display, a faff trying to set up favourite channels. Notes - will play back media files off a USB stick from other sources. Maximum size for a USB to record onto seems to be 32GB. (One hour of SD TV takes up approximately 1GB, three hours of radio about the same). Verdict - recording is a doddle and it's great to have portable recordings that will play back on my PC and Blu ray player. Picture quality is excellent. Very impressed by the low price, small size and functionality - a winner. Update - have had this for 12 months and still very happy with it. Very occasionally recordings fail or the box forgets channels, but it is rock solid virtually all of the time. It is compatible with a 500 GB Bipra U3 portable external hard drive which provides all the recording capacity I need.

Small but perfectly formed
Bought for my son along with a new aerial, as he had just moved into a new flat. He isnโt really confident at things like setting up TVs but this was so easy for him to do. He reported that it took seconds to set up, a few minutes to scan channels and he now has a perfect picture with all freeview channels. The actual item was so tiny i was amazed, as my old freeview box is twice the size! But small works great! Very pleased.

Cheap and not so cheerful
Unfortunately I purchased this box on the misapprehension that it could do a little more than deliver Freeview channels given the presence of an network port and the promise of IPTV but I most definitely wrong. As a Freeview box it's absolutely fine, it receives all the channels any other freeview box I have had does. So if that's all you want then this will do, although even with this there are caveats such as a rather strange EPG where you can only see what's on other channels by actually watching them and a rather cheap unintuitively laid out remote control. Below are my Pros and Cons, for what it's worth. Pros: Freeview reception low'ish price Small size connectivity (as in offering SCART + HDMI) PVR Easy setup It can play media files. Cons: EPG (this just allows you to schedule a recording on the channel you are watching) Remote, personally I find it poorly laid out. Almost pointless network. No idea how to setup IPTV, it has two options 'Local' which allows you to add URL's none of which work or 'cloud' which does nothing whatsoever! Fireware update fail, it says it's downloading but does nothing. Given it has a network port I hoped it would be able to access online channels such as iPlayer etc but there's no ondemand freeview play apps at all. Just one digital receiver so you can only record the channel you are watching So over all I would say the hardware is being let down by the poor software. I would say most TV's built over the last 15 years most likely have better firmware than this box. In the end I moved this on to a PC in a spare room and is was replaced by a Manhattan freeview box which is considerably better (but also dearer).
