Oil base to use floating on water for marbling technique?

not oil based but alcohol, works well, but translucent

How do I open them? Do I cut the tips off?

If your using these pigments for resin jewelry you may have a needle hand drill & that's what I use to open them. I personally like to use the second or third smallest bit & I take my stainless pointed bubble popper & score it a little to help get started & i drill the center in. Its just a few millimeters. I hold the tip firmly. I don't hold the bottle bcuz I don't want to accidentally squeeze & squirt pigment everywhere. And I think its much neater & I don't lose any precision. I feel cutting with scissors makes the pigment flow too much & harder to control. But that's just my opinion.

If an opaque black is desired, how many drops (per mL of epoxy) should I use?

I usually do the 30ml cups, but ONE drop of black in a 30ml is enough to make the whole thing black. I would try for 60ml or 90ml to be safe
