Should i be worried about having a device with a battery on it exposed to direct sunlight and extreme temperatures during the summer?

Yes, it uses a lithium CR2 battery and extreme high and low temps do affect longevity but batteries are relatively cheap. Use a window sunshade to shade direct sunlight or take the battery out. Just seeing the thing locked to your steering wheel is a big deterent. Life is not perfect!

The device comes with 3 keys so just keep one in a 'safe' place as a backup if you keep 2 sets of keys like I do.

Will it fit a kia soul steering wheel? dimensions are: 14 1/2" and 4 1/4"

It should be able to fit it. They include 'adapters' if you have a skinny steering wheel. I have a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, it works fine on it. The alarm is incredibly sensitive so when you open the door it will detect the vibration and give a couple of warning 'beeps'. Once it goes off it's pretty loud so be ready with the key to disarm it! You can use it without arming it as well as another option.
