Very nice coffee maker, easy to clean
UPDATE to review- there was unfortunately a defect with this coffee maker. It was going to be more complicated going thru krups to send it to them, have them evaluate it before deciding if they'd repair it before sending it back to us. With Amazon it was very easy, uncomplicated good customer service where they will send a replacement and I return this defective one. Amazon continues to make us feel confident in buying thru them. Now I really hope this second krups coffee maker work well. We had high hopes with the krups name, especially with this high price. And at this point I do think we I wr paid. Probably should have chose a different coffee maker *** I really like this coffee maker. Appearance is very nice, easy to clean. And with other coffee makers where the burner usually is with other, that area chips away eventually due to the daily heating. With this being the karaf that continues the heating, takes that problem away. We haven't had this long, and so far love it. Things I've noticed -This is actually a 12 cup, not a 14 cup but I'm ok with that. Only other issue we're trying to figure out, first time using it, it shut off multiple times and we'd have to restart it. That has happened only once more since then as we're using it daily for a month now. We read thru instructions but cannot find what would cause that. If you know please comment

SAFETY WARNING - BURN RISK - SAVE your MONEY -
I rarely write reviews, but feel obligated to warn people about this product / cheap coffee maker. We paid almost 150 dollars for this low end product, and it has been a constant problem from the start. The overall build felt cheap right off. The plastic is flimsy and the stainless steel only covers part of the exterior. We could overlook the appearance if it actually functioned, but it does not. It leaked all over the counter within the first days we owned it, and at the time I thought maybe I had not seated the carafe correctly. Not the case as now it leaks frequently. The carafe itself is extremely heavy, and you have to press down hard to get the button to release the coffee. It is awkward, heavy and difficult to pour. I cannot imagine an older person safely handling it. The biggest issue is the safety risk. The machine signals that brewing is complete, but when you remove the carafe, hot coffee continues to pour out at a rapid rate. The pause and brew feature simply does not function even when the machine says the brew is complete. I have been burned several times now trying to get a towel under the stream of hot coffee to stop it from pouring onto the warmer and across my new countertop. No coffee maker should behave this way and it could very easily scold someone. I have not contacted Krups yet, but I will. If they make this right, I will update my review to reflect that. If they do not remedy the issue after only two months of ownership, this review will stand and I will continue to warn consumers about this dangerous product.

I like this coffee maker so much I bought one as a B-Day gift for my Momma. She loves it too.
Because there's no always-on heating plate, the coffee never gets cooked. Because of the "shower-head" design, the flavor is always even and consistent. Because of the carafe design, the coffee stays at least steaming warm for well over three hours. The brew-strength, programmable auto-brew and clock all function extremely well. The only "con" I have is that it's a little hard to fill the reservoir with the carafe as it pours so slowly. Also, because of the carafe pouring design, NO MESS!!! Uses paper basket filters perfectly. Best coffee maker in all my 40 years, hands down. Also, also, the stainless steel of the carafe makes it beyond easy to clean and keeps the coffee's flavor clean and so, so good. Also, also, also, the unit turns off automatically when done brewing, this saves electricity. Alright, I'm done.

Not KRUPS quality: Messy Pouring, Warm Coffee
1) I expected superior quality and performance because the product says KRUPS on it. FAIL! I'm sure no one at KRUPS even tested this product. It's certainly pretty on the counter top, but functionally it's not worthy of the name KRUPS. 2) The travel tumbler is poorly designed. A mess is made on the coffee maker and counter top when pouring water into the coffee maker, and likewise when pouring its somewhat hot coffee into a proper coffee mug. And the cap leaks too, even when the opening is "closed." 3) The coffee maker brews coffee at a less than optimal temperature. Otherwise the just-brewed coffee would be warmer than 150°F (65.5°C). Note: coffee experts recommend 155-175°F (68-79°C) serving temperature. Pre-heating the travel tumbler, inside and out, is a real bother and not worth the effort. Easier to microwave the coffee mug for up to 60s on high. Measure the temperature before drinking! 4) I only bought this product because of its small size for use in our motorhome. Unfortunately, the resulting coffee temperature is also size small. 5) I would not recommend this coffee maker to anyone. This is the last KRUPS product I will ever consider purchasing.

First Impressions: Krups has become Cheap - not Inexpensive - just Cheap.
This is my 3rd Krups Coffee Maker over the past 10-12 years. I require a 12-14 cup maker with Stainless Insulated Carafe and "Strength Control" (Mild-Dark). And I've favored Krups over the other common brands. The previous unit (ET351) had discrete buttons, a large 3" showerhead integrated into the lid that drips water to all areas of the filter basket, an activated charcoal water filter, and a vented 2-layer top. The new unit "Simply Brew 12" (KM209D50) has "touch screen" that you have to press repeatedly to get a selection to register (I found that to select a "Strength" I had to first Start then Stop before that "Strength" button would activate). It has a tiny 3/4 inch showerhead that jets water into only the center of the filter basket, and yet when you lift the lid sticks out several inches to obscure the water reservoir and part of the filter basket. There is no activated charcoal water filter - just an admonition to use descaling chemicals regularly. The top lid is simple flat single-layer plastic with a very small vent at the back (making it an issue for under-cupboard placement) which rapidly gets HOT to the touch, and collects such condensation that if you open it shortly after brewing is done will run enough water back into the reservoir that it percolates and sprays out the showerhead (which is now pointed at you!) Another annoyance feature is that the reservoir water-level gauge is positioned far back on the right-hand side, meaning this coffeemaker MUST be positioned at the very left of a counter if you are not to simply guess if you've filled it properly!! (Interesting that the Amazon and Krups product pages fail to show that side view a single time amongst a collective 10 images of the machine.) Any takers on bets how long it will last?? I'm halfway waiting for another annoyance to be found before 30 days so that it goes back to the Mothership.

Spills coffee everywhere
EDIT- I called Krupps and gave them the lot number for our maker and they replaced it for free! We now have a replacement that works wonderfully!! —————————————— We were so excited this new coffee maker as our old one was a krupps and lasted us almost 20 years working like a charm! But this one… we are not please with. Randomly, while brewing, it will spill coffee water that doesn’t make it into the carafe somehow. The whole counter will be covered in coffee & it’ll be dripping down the cupboards onto the floor. This doesn’t happen every time. Probably 50% of the time. Some brews are just fine. It took us a while to figure out if it was operator error or what. We stuck with it to see if there was something we were doing to make this happen, but there’s nothing we can make sense of that would explain it. We make sure the carafe is in position correctly and everything is lined up… but you just have to wait in anticipation and hope it doesn’t spill everywhere this time. Really defeats the point of the programmable brew time when you wake up, excited there’s already coffee brewed, and find a mess from the coffee maker everywhere in the kitchen. Now we’re just outside the return window and I guess we’re stuck with this thing…??!! Not pleased.

A bit disappointing
UPDATE: After my husband wrote the below review I thought it was a little better that that. Until this week when in less than a year it started leaking all over the kitchen table. Oh you must have spilled it I said, and again today the table had water all over it. It's coming from inside the machine. Well, it's in the electronic recycling bin and husband is running to Costco to pick up a Ninja. Very sad when your product can't last a year and the only option is to send it in and wait till it is fixed and shipped back. My wife bought this after quite a bit of research as I wanted a thermal carafe to keep my coffee warm to replace one tht failed. I bought this based on good reviews and the Krup name, but sad to say I'm a bit disappointed in it. There are several issues I have with it, the first one being that the carafe dribbles, especially when using it to fill the coffeemaker. This is not a unique issue to the Krups as many makers seem to share this issue, but it seems inexcusable that any manufacturer would sell such a flawed product. Next is that the keypad is unresponsive and often requires several attempts before it catches and begins brewing. The basket is also a mess. When I use the goldmesh basket it doesn't catch the fines and the last cups get the dregs. If I use a paper filter, it often folds over from the spray, and overflows making a mess. Lastly, the machine never dries out and there is a lot of condensation inside when I open it to brew a fresh pot. None of this was an issue with the Gevalia I had to replace, which I bought at a garge sale for $10 and used for probably 7 years, w/o these issues. I really hoped that this Krups would serve me as well, but sadly that hasn't been the case in over the year I've owned it.

The carafe gets too warm.
This replaced my 40 year old Krups carafe brewer and I liked the old design much better. This model has too large of a carafe for my purposes and the carafe is not a good thermos bottle. The bottom of the carafe is very warm after brewing and it loses heat too quickly. The filter basket is also too small for use at full water capacity unless you like your coffee weak. I wonder if the Krups name was sold to China

Doesn't keep coffee hot very long.
Terrible. Coffee is cold after 4 hours. No re-heat option on stay-on mode. I also often to forget to empty the carafe and have had more coffee wrecks than ever. That's not Krupp's fault, just something to think about before you buy. You can't see the contents of the carafe soo it might get overlooked; until it's flooded the counter, drawers and floor. Good times. Not. And the coffee doesn't stay hot long. Save the cash, or spend more on something better. Sorry Krupps. I wish I never bought this!

Krups Coffee Maker Is Compact & Perfect For Travel & For At Home Use
The Krups coffee maker is perfect for myself as I like to make coffee and take it on the go. I also find it very good to use at home as the coffee in the mug is kept at a perfect coffee temperature. I do not require a coffee maker unit that is large. The unit functions very well, there isn't water leakage and the taste is excellent. The size of the mug is just right for carrying when I go for my walks or to my destination.
