Can you get noaa broadcasts with this radio ?  also, i assume the mentioned air band is for listening to planes and airports ?  appreciate any input !

Accepted Answer

This radio does NOT pick up the NOAA Weather Broadcast.  The Air Band is to monitor Air Traffic Control, planes and ground control.

Are these the new ver-073? and has the noise when holding the radio by the display been eliminated?

We asked Sangean and got this reply: "Current ATS-909X2’s have software version 70. Version 73 will be available in our next shipment at the end of March 2021.  In the next couple of weeks we’ll have version 73 software and the equipment necessary to update current models."

All units we’ve tested do not have the noise when holding the unit, this noise has been eliminated.

Can I pickup Russia, Ukraine with this radio?

Russia only has one shortwave broadcaster left and that is Radio Purga in eastern Siberia. It is a national broadcaster and not intended for overseas audiences. Radio Ukraine no longer has it's own transmitters but it has a weekly program that is relayed on shortwave from the Florida station WRMI. Radio Romania broadcasts from Romania can be heard on shortwave. I listen to Romania in English on the 909X2 using a backyard antenna here in California.

What color is radio ??

According to the Manufacturer: "The color for the ATS-909X2 is Charcoal."
We believe the manufacturer is referring to the top half of the front, the sides and the back.  The bottom half of the front (keypad) is obviously Silver color.
Then, doing a quick check on Google, we found this information:
"Charcoal was a color that represented the dark gray color of wood burned at an intense temperature.  Charcoal grey is a very dark shade of grey - almost black but still lighter."
