Update: I received a refund from the seller due to the item's condition, which was very generous - great customer service. I think I can comment on the quality of the grinder now and ignore the shipping issues (in the old review below). Updated Review: Build Quality: 4.5/5, plastic barrel knicks this down from 5/5. Feels sturdy in the hand. Aesthetics: 4.5/5, again a slight downgrade due to the plastic. Otherwise it looks and feels nice. Action: 5/5, Grinds a LOT of pepper per turn. Feels smooth. The grind sizes are very good - the finest size is very fine. It is easy to change grind size. A quality product. My only complaint was how it was shipped, hopefully they change that in the future. The pepper grinder was shipped in an envelope with no packaging, so it arrived damaged. Since it was just in the envelope with no protection, it fell apart in transit. The central axel that turns the grinder is bent out of alignment due to shipping damage - it still works, I think, but it is not in new condition. Also, it was full of pepper when it was shipped, so the pepper fell out in transit and it and the various parts of the grinder scratched the stainless steel. All the pepper was just loose in the shipping envelope, but I wasn't necessarily planning on using it anyway - I'm more concerned about the damage to the item. It seems like a decent grinder, but I paid $50 for it and it arrived in essentially used, slightly damaged condition.

Yes, it's expensive for what it is. This is well made and works perfectly. Easier to fill than others I have had. The top pulls off, took a bit to figure that.

I always take my time to see how things work over time before writing a review. Well, after 6 years of use and still going strong I guess it's about time to write a positive review of the pepper mill (don't own the salt mill). My pepper mill has held up absolutely flawlessly for me over the past 6 years with the dots and glass still fully intact. Grind quality and adjustment settings are still top notch. However, the same reason ATK recommended this model is also the only reason I would caution others to be aware of as the black peppercorns come out very quickly! Getting just a little bit of pepper can be a challenge. In my opinion making this mill better suited for use during cooking when you want larger portions quickly than as a table top model where you want smaller amounts. The one exception being with lighter and airy peppercorns (such as freeze dried green) as this my mill is quite slow at grinding them as it just doesn't bite into them the same way it does with your typical black peppercorn. As far as leaving some pepper dust where you set it down as mentioned so often in other reviews, yes it does. All mills I have ever used do to an extent. I don't find it much if any worse than other mills I have used. As far as the dots wearing off on the older model... if you hold it below to the adjustment ring I can completely understand why others have run into this issue, but I'm not sure why you would want to hold it down there. The burr carrier is located inside this area and holding it there will put extra force on the burr carrier leading the burrs wearing more quickly. If you hold it up on the glass the dots will likely stay perfectly intact like mine have. With dots still as clear and fully intact as the day I unboxed it. Overall after 6 years of use several times a week and despite the few things to be aware of like all mills will leave behind a little dust I would still buy this same exact model. If you're looking for a quick and consistent mill this one is worth the price of admission.

Absolutely excellent product! My wife loves it, I love it for our various activities in the kitchen. Our only mystery is that it seems to sometime slip from its last grinder fine selector to just the coarsest setting. But otherwise excellent product!

The only problem I have with this product is the amount of pepper we now use. It’s always been a battle in our house whether to buy peppercorns or ground pepper. This pepper mill solved the issue but we now go through a tremendous amount of pepper. It has a smooth, easy grind, and it is easy to adjust. I particularly like that it has a visual grind setting.

I'll be honest, I went through a replacement process. The original mill seemed defective and I had it replaced. After the replacement, this is a good solid peppermill which I would recommend to anyone in their kitchen
